SPRING TRAVEL SOCCER EVALUATIONS

Each May, NASA holds evaluations to create teams that will compete in each age group (G6/G8) for the following Fall and Spring seasons. Evaluations are critical to ensure players are placed on the right team that creates the best overall playing experience for everyone. For the incoming fifth graders, the evaluations will occur over two days, while the incoming sixth, seventh and eighth grade teams will be evaluated over the course of one night.

NASA’s Directors of Coaching run the on-field evaluation program that consists of a series of small and large-sided games. Small sided games are important for evaluation because they provide a controlled environment where coaches can closely observe individual players' technical skills, tactical decision-making, and physical abilities in a game-like situation, allowing for a more accurate assessment of their strengths and weaknesses compared to traditional full-team practice or games with larger numbers of players; this is especially valuable for identifying areas for improvement and tracking player development over time.

Key points about using small sided games for evaluation

Increased player involvement
With fewer players on the field, each individual gets more touches on the ball and is forced to make more decisions throughout the game, giving the evaluators a better view of their capabilities under pressure.

Targeted skill development
By manipulating the rules and playing area of the small sided game, evaluators can specifically assess particular skills like passing, dribbling, shooting, or defensive positioning.

High repetition
The fast-paced nature of small sided games allows players to practice skills repeatedly in a game-like context, which helps to identify consistent strengths and development areas.

Individual feedback
Smaller groups enable evaluators to provide more personalized feedback on each player, addressing specific areas of strength and development.

Players must be registered prior to travel evaluations by May 18 to take part in the in person evaluations. You must attend evaluations to be considered for the top select teams in each age group.

Incoming 5th grade players have 2 nights of evaluations. Incoming 5th graders must attend BOTH nights in order to be considered for the top select team.
